At our wedding we want to display photos of our grandparents wedding days. I have been on the search for some candid ones as well as the traditional portrait ones, which I am familiar with from hanging on my grandparents and parents walls.
Here are my paternal grandparents on their wedding day, April 19th 1947...
And here is my maternal grandparents on their wedding day. I'm unsure of the date, I think it is mid 1930's. I love how elegant my grandma looks with her train and dashing new husband. They look happy. I wonder if they knew they would go on to have over 10 children?!
In the album with my Nana's wedding photos I found these ones as well. The one on the left is of my great-grandmother all dressed up to the nines in her fur for the occasion. The photo on the right is of my Aunty Mary and Uncle Mark. The caption on the back of the photo read: "My sister Mary and her fiance". They went on to have a long and happy marriage, but to me Aunty Mary has always seemed so elderly, once upon a time she was a young girl attending her sister's wedding with her fiance though. I think she looks like she'd have a good time in this photo :)
Do you have any family history stashed away in wedding photos of a bygone era?

I love old family photos. My maternal Grandmaother had a huge collection so I had always known what all of my Mums side of the family looked like. Unfortunalty due to the displacement of people in Europe during WW2 there were very few photos of my Dads family. A couple of years ago, he was given a photo of his grandparents, my great-grandparents on their wedding day. It was a huge moment for our family, made even more emotional by the fact that my son (the only boy for 3 generations) was the spitting image of his great great grandfather.
I think that you want to have old family wedding photos at your wedding is simply beautiful. What a wonderful way to celebrate family!
oh those photos are fabulous :)
I love the candid snaps especially. I have my grandparents wedding photos on my wall too and I love them. Such a great thing to include on your day x
This is such a great idea! Looking at the photos gave me goosebumps (in a good way) :)
I love the idea of displaying these pieces of history at your wedding Emma! A lovely personal, family touch. I have been recently putting together some photos of both my husbands & my grandparents. It is nice for our children to see photos & think about past generations!
I love my paternal grandmother's wedding photos. 1930s, so much more glam than any other era! My dress is actually very similar to hers. I can't wait :)
My husband and I displayed family wedding photos as well. It was a big hit and brought back many nice memories for our guests. Nice choice and photos. =)
