brindabella

Brindy-Brindy
Aboriginal term meaning 'stand of trees'

Bella
Latin meaning 'beautiful' or 'of beauty'

We moved into our ramshackle farmhouse on the 31st October 2010, after three years living in Murrindindi and cutting our teeth on our beloved Ythanbrae. Prior to that we lived in Melbourne for three years, studying at university (photography for me, agricultural science for Mr M).

Go here to see why we named our home Brindabella, and what the house and garden looked like then!

Brindabella was purchased by my family in 1999 and is roughly 150 acres of undulating green hills with volcanic red soils - perfect country for potato and prime lamb production (which is exactly what we do!) Brindabella borders Pine Ridge to the north, the farm which I grew up on...which borders Ballina Park, the farm my grandfather purchased in 1946 and where my father grew up. To the south-west Brindabella borders another new farm, Terrabella. All up the farms total roughly 1,500 acres, we produce in excess of 5,000 tonnes of fresh market potatoes a year as well as turn off 800-1000 prime fat lambs.

Oh and all of this is in Thorpdale of course! Thorpy is a small farming community nestled in the foothills of the Strezlecki Ranges in Gippsland. It consists of a milk bar, a pub, a small school and a footy club, fairly simple really. My brother, my two sisters and I grew up here in the red soil, riding ponies, falling asleep to the sound of irrigators, building cubby houses out of spud bins and hanging out for Mum to feed the shearers so we could scoff scones. And I wouldn't change a thing.

Welcome to our home.
