Last night we met with a local lady who runs the church committee, the little (and I mean little) church down the road from where I grew up to be exact. The country chapel where Mr M and I are going to get married to be even more exact. I had never actually been inside the church, despite it being in my neck of the woods, it is a Uniting Church and I grew up a good little Catholic girl with our local parish being in another town. You might remember we peered longingly through the windows one weekend not too long ago at 'our' little church we wanted to get married in. After much debate over whether I wanted to be married in a Catholic church, or whether we wanted to have the ceremony outside on the farm, and enquiring at other little local chapels (even at our old high school) we finally came to the conclusion that this little church in particular was right for us.
It's conveniently nearby our farm where the marquee reception will be held, it's small, intimate, in a quiet setting with the creek at the front door and towering poplars and gums alongside. It has all the country charm we are looking for to match our rural elegance wedding day. So it's decided: this is the place where we will become Mr and Mrs. That's pretty big. But you know what's not big? The aisle. It's the one thing that struck me about the space. Sure we will be pushing the laws of physics to fit all of our guests in the church, and sure I was worried about how our photographers Ben and Louise were going to work (as a wedding photog myself I sympathised!) But always in my head the vision of my wedding day from when I was a little girl was a long and grand walk down the aisle. In this church it will be more like one step, two step, three - oh here I am at the altar. Which is fine I suppose, but I also have to get four bridesmaids and six Golden Delights down there, as well as walk down the aisle with both my mum and my dad in that teeny narrow space!
Other than that I am absolutely smitten with our little church by the creek. Another thing ticked off my massive wedding to-do list - hurruh!
