This weekend I have been looking forward to since last year, October last year to be exact, when I was newly engaged. I was casually flicking through a frankie magazine whilst working one day in the gallery back in ol' Yea town having my fifteenth coffee for the day. I saw an ad for a 'boutique bridal market' and I was hooked. This is exactly what I had been thinking of, nothing flashy or tacky or 'look at me I'm a bride'. This sounded right up this little bride-to-be's alley.
Portobello Bride's event this weekend at St Kilda Town Hall should be memorable. Firstly, it's the first of it's kind in my fair city and secondly because it is jam packed full of some amazing suppliers. Amazing. Some of the best photographers, stylists, bridal wear, florists, chefs and wedding related vendors on offer. Think Amy Oliver Photography, Ed Dixon Food Design, Ms Jane, the super gorgeous Georgeous (love pretty much everything about Georgeous), A Vintage Affair and who we very nearly booked for our wedding photographer the talented Adrian Tuazon.
After witnessing far too many bridezilla's oohing and aahing over hot pink stretch hummers at the big bonanza bridal expo a few months ago I was totally put off the whole bridal industry. I think Portobello Bride is exactly what is needed in the wedding market. It's come at a time when all brides-to-be like myself are craving a one-stop-shop for all unique and beautiful wedding vendors in the very stylish and forward thinking Melbourne.
The boutique market is over two days (this Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th March). I think what I am most looking forward to is...
- the fashion show by Fleur Wood (prettiness)
- the goodie bag on entry (who doesn't like seemingly 'free' stuff?)
- getting the low-down about all things styling from Georgie Kay from Georgeous and the team at prop.d
- Ed Dixon's pop up cafe (yumminess!)
- chilling in the Bride To Be Lounge (yeah I know, swanky!)
- Plus I have my fingers crossed for some serious honeymoon winning action, because basically we are undecided on that front so a push in the right direction should sort us out.
