Yesterday Mr M and I travelled to the big smoke to attend a funeral. Whilst in the maze that is the Springvale cemetery we visited his paternal grandparents grave, grandparents who he never knew as they died long, long before he was born. He did not even know their first names. We found the grave, saw the names and both smiled at each other.
Henrick and Alice. Our favourite names for our future children are Henry and Alice. Our reservations were that they were not family names.
After feeling no connection to these people who were born a century ago in Holland, raised five children, moved half way across the globe and then left this world long before we entered it, we felt we somehow did connect and a warmth passed over us.
Do you have any unexpected or coincidental connections to your family history?
