{ Yarra Glen Antiques }

One of my favourite places in the world is the huge Yarra Glen antiques store - unfortunately I spend way too much time in there, as it is pretty much the halfway mark on a drive to Melbourne and I always stop off to 'have a look' (most of the time walking out with a new purchase totally unintended!)

This time I was armed with my iphone to take you on a tour of this glorious treasure trove...

Love these scales, the cakes and flour tins - the cottage kitchen is way too teeny-tiny to accommodate those scales on the bench though, and the flour tin was $80, I couldn't justify it.

I really liked this for our new bathroom mirror - price was way over my budget though, $110. Maybe if I could haggle down to $80 but I don't like my chances :(

I've always thought I would want a vintage cot when I have a baby - but they are so dangerous so maybe not. With the side down this would be a really nice day bed though. And spot the cool crocheted granny rug??

Fell in love with the shapes of these lampshades - wasn't sure I was clever enough to recover the lampshades though? The white base I love too.

Really cute little retro goodies. This would make the coolest lunchbox for a little boy.

Lots of vintage signs from around Melbourne.

Anyone for tea??

Vintage wooden crate (which I bought!) on big old chest.

I got to the checkout to pay for my wooden crate ($48 - eek!) and even the cash register is awesome! I'm using the wooden crate for storage of lemonade, tomato sauce and champagne bottles on top of kitchen cupboards. They were really annoying me being exposed - am all about clearing the clutter this year. Antique shops like this are clearly not helping...

Good-bye Yarra Glen Antiques - until next time, I love you and your dangerous goodies!

Wow Emma - what a wonderful tour!! I used to go to the Victory Theatre Antique store in Blackheath in the Blue Mountains all the time and really miss it since we moved to the country. The chandeliers in our girls rooms are from there though, so every time I turn the light on I think of it:) Love all those beautiful finds you photographed. I recover vintage lampshades all the time, it is definitely within your ability that's for sure:) Enjoy your lovely crate and thanks for sharing!! Have a lovely day - Tina.

I want to go to there NOW!! In fact - I think I'm going to schedule a little drive. One of this years' goals is to spend more time doing nice stuff. Okay, I need to go and hang the washing out now!

So glad that shop is on the other side of the world for me or it would be my financial ruin. That cash register is gorgeous.

@Tina: Do you remove the existing fabric or just cover over the top? I'm intrigued...I thought they were a very awkward shape.
@Viv: Do come visit! In winter so you can see snow!
@Squirt Baby: I've uncovered my secret stash - now there will be day tripped by the hundreds stealing all my finds! I think more nice stuff time is a great idea though - bundle the kids in the car!
@Hatjunkie: I don't think the cash register was for sale - but if it's not bolted to the floor I'm sure you could make an offer!

Hi Emma - I remove the existing fabric. You can do it panel by panel and cover the seams with lovely trim (not tacky trim - don't panic) or try to cover it in one piece (this is the more difficult option). If you want some instructions or you want me to show you some pics of how to do it, I think I have some and would be happy to show you. Just email me at trubie@une.edu.au. Maybe I should do a blog post on it? Anyhoo - it is a great way to get a unique lamp in any fabric you choose:)- Tina x

Yes - do a blog post on it! It's a project I've been thinking about doing for awhile now and am after some good instruction. I thought panel by panel would be easier but you know, I like to be difficult and I want just one piece of fabric...
